Native American Landing

Native American Landing

The original upper landing of the Niagara portage was located in what is known now as Porter Park, about 0.75 miles above the falls.

The Native Americans used it for thousands of years. The French used it during the first half of the 18th century.

In 1750 the French moved the landing another 0.75 miles up river to avoid dangerous currents by the old landing.
